Aboukarima,Abdulwahed; El-Marazky,Mohamed; Elsoury,Hussien; Zayed,Moamen; Minyawi,Mamdouh.
ABSTRACT One of the new crop varieties that have been adopted for high yield is the Egyptian faba bean. However, poor-quality faba bean has reduced economic value. Quality evaluation is thus important and can be performed using computational intelligence. We developed a robust method based on morphological features and artificial neural network for quality grading and classification of Egyptian faba-bean seeds, covering five varieties: Giza3, Giza461, Misr1, Nobarya1, and Sakha1. Fifteen seed morphological features were then calculated, and artificial neural networks classified faba beans into different varieties. The results indicated an overall classification accuracy of 77.5% was achieved in training phase and it was 100% when testing dataset was used....

FUZZY MODEL FOR PREDICTING CLOACAL TEMPERATURE OF BROILER CHICKENS UNDER THERMAL STRESS REA
Abreu,Lucas H. P.; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki; Campos,Alessandro T.; Lourençoni,Dian; Bahuti,Marcelo.
ABSTRACT Broiler chickens submitted to different intensities and durations of thermal stress are subject to variation in cloacal temperature and, consequently, to a decrease in performance. Given the complexity of these interactions, artificial intelligence is a useful methodology for decision-making. Thus, this study aimed to assess and predict, by means of a fuzzy model, the cloacal temperature of broiler chickens submitted to thermal stress in the second week of life, with varying durations and intensities, in climatized wind tunnels. Mamdani's inference and defuzzification methods by means of the center of gravity were used. One hundred and twenty rules were elaborated. The developed fuzzy model was used to predict the cloacal temperature of broiler...

IDENTIFICATION OF MAIZE LODGING: A CASE STUDY USING A REMOTELY PILOTED AIRCRAFT SYSTEM REA
Acorsi,Matheus G.; Martello,Maurício; Angnes,Graciele.
ABSTRACT A common agricultural problem in many regions of Brazil is maize lodging, as a consequence of strong winds and rain which impacts on crop growth and yield. However, collecting data using ground-based, manual field measurement methods is inefficient. An emerging tool is the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), capable of delivering spatial data with high resolution and flexible periodicity. In this study, the potential to detect the maize lodging using crop surface models derived from RPAS was assessed. Our RPA-based approach uses a quantitative threshold to determine lodging percentage. The threshold values of plant height, used to detect the occurrence of lodging, were based on fixed and variable values. The validation of percentage lodging...

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate drip irrigation as a process, by monitoring the average flow applied by the emitter using tools of statistical quality control. Four kinds of drippers were selected, two inline labyrinth type and two online where one of the inline emitters was not self-compensating and the other, self-compensating emitter. The system was installed in the field and tested for 85 hours, using three kinds of treated domestic sewage effluents and tap water. The system was under statistical control when the emitters were new, however none of the drippers reaches the manufacturer's specification for average flow. The online drippers showed more dispersion for individual flow measurements and the non-self-compensating inline dripper...

Hastes instrumentadas para a mensuração da resistência mecânica do solo REA
Adamchuk,Viacheslav I.; Molin,José P..

IMPLICATIONS FOR PEAK FLOWS OF THE MARRECAS RIVER BASIN DUE TO CHANGES IN THE BRAZILIAN FOREST CODE REA
Aguiar,Wagner de; Sampaio,Silvio C.; Paisani,Julio C.; Reis,Ralpho R. dos.
ABSTRACT Changes in the Brazilian Forest Code (BFC) have soften the criteria for recovery and conservation of permanent preservation areas (PPAs), enhancing processes related to surface runoff. The aim of this study is to understand the effects of changes in PPA classification criteria established by BFC of 2012 to the detriment of BFC from 1965 considering the surface runoff response in the basin draining the upper Marrecas River valley in the flow peaks. The HEC–HMS model was used to simulate flow peaks considering three land-use scenarios, representative of the current use, adapting it to PPAs fitted to the BFC of 1965 and 2012 and seven precipitation return periods. In the proposed scenarios, the use of BFC of 2012, to the detriment of that from 1965,...

SEASONAL DYNAMICS OF AGRICULTURAL SOIL COVER IN RUNOFF GENERATION REA
Aguiar,Wagner de; Sampaio,Silvio C.; Paisani,Julio C.; Remor,Marcelo B.; Reis,Ralpho R. dos.
ABSTRACT Seasonal changes in agricultural soil use due to agroclimatic conditions affect the water cycle in watersheds. This study aimed to understand the temporal variation of runoff inherent to the seasonal occupation dynamics of the agricultural soil in the basin that drains the upper valley of the Marrecas River, upstream of the urban perimeter of Francisco Beltrão, PR. The effects of runoff were verified through flow peaks simulated by the HEC-HMS model in twelve monthly soil use scenarios, under seven precipitation return periods. The results indicated a strong relationship between bare soil and flow peaks, temporally delimiting April and March as the largest runoff generators and January and August as the smallest ones. The ratio quantified by rates...

HYPERSPECTRAL SPECTROSCOPY TO DETECT DIFFERENT RESPONSES OF TWO SOYBEAN (GLYCINE MAX) CULTIVARS TO CHARCOAL ROT (MACROPHOMINA PHASEOLINA) TOXIN REA
Al-Ahmadi,Ameer; Subedi,Arjun; Choudhary,Ruplal; Fakhoury,Ahmad; Watson,Dennis.
ABSTRACT Previous studies have confirmed the potential of hyperspectral spectroscopy (HS) to detect charcoal rot toxin effect on soybean (Glycine max). However, there is no evidence that it can differentiate among difference responses to that effect. This research tested the potential of HS (900–2400 nm) to differentiate different responses to charcoal rot effect caused by the fungal pathogen Macrophomina phaseolina. Known susceptible ‘Pharaoh’ and resistant ‘Spencer’ cultivars of soybean seedlings at the V1 stage were tested, and HS reflectance was measured in each treatment at 0 h (just before toxin treatment), 24 h, and 36 h after toxin treatment. For both cultivars, reflectance generally decreased up to 10% over time for controls and increased for...

THE TECHNOLOGICAL LEVEL OF AGRICULTURAL MECHANIZATION IN THE STATE OF CEARÁ, BRAZIL REA
Albiero,Daniel; Xavier,Reuel S.; Garcia,Angel P.; Marques,Arthur R.; Rodrigues,Ruan L..
ABSTRACT Agricultural mechanization is a significant factor of agricultural modernization, but there are few data on the technological levels of this mechanization in the State of Ceará, Brazil. To study this topic, we designed a structured questionnaire, and interviews were conducted across the state. The survey data made it possible to calculate an index of agricultural mechanization technology and study hypotheses specific to farms of Ceará. The results indicate that the technology levels are different between farms of different sizes: large and medium farms are level I-M5 (automation), while small farms ranged from level IV-M1/M2 (primary/animal) to III-M3 (preliminary). We conclude that public policy for training should be directed at small farms....

SHIFTS AND HARVESTING SYSTEMS ON QUALITY OF IMPURITIES SAMPLES IN SUGARCANE REA
Alcantara,Aline S.; Ormond,Antonio T. S.; Sousa Júnior,Paulo R. de; Silva,Rouverson P. da; Kazama,Elizabeth H..
ABSTRACT Semi-mechanical and mechanical harvesting methods may influence the content of impurities in harvested sugarcane. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of three mechanical methods of sugarcane harvesting: one semi-mechanical, and two mechanical ones - self-performed and outsourced, during three working shifts. As quality indicators, both mineral and vegetal impurities were accounted. About 50 random samples were collected in the studied area during 35 harvest days and in three working shifts, for each harvesting method. Mineral impurities showed similar behavior for both self-performed and outsourced mechanical harvesting, thus displaying a low variability. On the other hand, vegetal impurities showed to be unstable for all three shifts....

ANAEROBIC DIGESTION STABILITY TEST BY SHEWHART CONTROL CHART REA
Alcantara,Michael S.; Grisotti,Geovane; Tavares,Maria H. F.; Gomes,Simone D..
ABSTRACT The anaerobic digestion (AD) operation complexity raise the importance of stability testing to verify whether the operating conditions are under control and whether the process is working as required. The current method of verifying process stability is by a range of the ratio between volatile fatty acidity and total alkalinity (VFA/ TA) within which stable conditions are brought about; these rates vary with the content of organic material. A few indicators as pH or constant biogas production are also used. Therefore, the aim of this study was to propose the use of Shewhart control chart for individual measures as a stability test for AD, as well as to demonstrate its use in poultry litter AD. The method showed to be advantageous since it...
